Spoiler:
It's not a case of never knowing; its a case of never being told, and to have certain information withheld just means that you, as a reader, are entitled - and indeed, in many cases, invited - to make a judgement for yourself. Take, for example, Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road', where the wasted America that makes the background of the story is never explained, which lets the reader project his/her own ideas onto the landscape, or Moshin Hamid's 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist', which plays off ambiguity to raise central issues of prejudice and the way in which we treat each other.

Yeah.
woah...
Now even though that was a well dictated statement... you know you look like a nerd right now... notrust
Gainrom

Spoiler:
Aizen is whatever I want him to be?

Good, let's make him a pony. Pink, cute and sugary.

Oh, and I want Mayuri to be my grandmother so she can cook me poisonous cookies that I'll feed my dog with.
LMFAO nuts
I love this thread...
Aizen is a murdering bastard, you know this... suspicious

"In my world we eat rainbows and poop butterflies!!!" Aaaaaaaahhh rolleyes

Ah, that book sounds good, I'll look into it. I really like the idea of "reading" a book about Blindness; it sounds like my cup of tea.

Heh, I'm a very..."non-elitist" literature student, and besides, I'm currently studying post-modernism, which encourages us to see no literature as free from literary analysis...so I get a kick out of analysing Bleach every now and again.

The lack of a impermeable boundary between Shinigami/Hollow (as exemplified by Vaizards and Arrancar) is symptomatic of contemporary society's inability to situate the us/them boundary in any permanent location. This difficulty is played out in the lack of an explicit demonstration of a "bad guy" character's final resting place. The ambiguity of the text questions whether we - or anyone for that matter - are in a position to judge them; for that implies a guilty/innocent binary opposition that really is inconsistent with the shape of the world today.

...

Ya, I'm quite similar although I'm in Engineering, I quite often get a "kick" out of analysing practically everything. Typically my friend's dreams and my own. My friends like what I have to say in terms of the analysis of their dreams, to them it seems quite accurate in terms of a reflection of their subconscious. And ya it is quite interesting how there is a breakdown of the line between the Vizards and Arrancar, although you cant say they are the same really becuz its like saying you took a black man and turned him dark grey and then took a white man and turned him light grey.. They are close, but there is quite a difference and their roots are definitely different. Look at humanity, we all root (religiously) from Adam and Eve yet there are so many race wars.

Yea, they might not be the same, but the ability to move between (and for a permanent shift from one to the other, i.e. the Hollow form taking over --- which makes me wonder if Hollows are under threat from their shinigami side taking over!!) is just as significant :P

Also, I feel I ought to point out that I made a mistake in saying "Aizen is whatever you want him to be"; it really ought to say, "Aizen is whatever you read him to be", i.e. if you read Bleach and think, 'Oh, he's a nice guy, and the shinigami are just idiots', then you're entitled to think that. But if you think he's a bastard and then just decide to call him a sweetie-pie, then that's a different story altogether ;)

i think aizen always has the upper hand, always one step ahead of everyone and not easily supprised. He's got everything all planned out.

why does everyone have so little faith? Shinji was able to see straight through aizens hypnosis in the pendulum series, until (well sort off) he was betrayed... but it doesnt take away from the fact that he saw through it... so did uraharra. even landed a hit on him.

more importantly, we have all been informed that to become a captain, you have to meet certain criteria, which aizen must of gone through... bankai namely, now aizen had to have shown the captain commander his bankai as well as other captains. So the capt commander is well aware of his powers of illusions (water based) and bankai. there must have been some preparation prior to this battle on the cap commander side. lets see huh?

and i have the feeling that something regarding the original reference of hichigo will come into play soon... ie... ill get into alot of trouble if you die now... this problem with his mask seems to invoke that idea in my mind.

otherwise, thankyou for the posts people, once in a while these posts actually are insightful and not just 12yr old banter

RE: Aizen had to show Yamamoto his bankai...Do you think Aizen could have shown them a bankai that wasn't really his bankai? I.e. used hypnosis to misdirect them about his true power?

yes, quite true. In fact, when Hinamori confronted Aizen in the Central 46 chamber, she said that he showed them his shikai...which was using mist to disorient his enemies. When in fact he mearly let them see what he wanted them too.

I'm assuming it would be the same for showing his bankai. Most likely, he never actually released and just hypnotized the people there. So it should be quite a surprise when he does release.
